Thank You Sterling Elementary Volunteers!

Many years ago when the CMS superintendent called on houses of faith to partner with high-poverty public schools, Temple Beth El answered the call. Ever since then, we have been paired with Sterling Elementary School in Pineville, and we support them in multiple ways — school supply collections, Mitzvah Day projects (including packing and delivering a summer fun pack for every single one of the over 750 students that attend the school!), sponsoring an annual back-to-school breakfast or lunch for staff, etc. Our SPICE group also has worked to support Sterling students and staff by donating books and volunteering. They even ran an afterschool program for Sterling students for a couple of years! And on top of that, some of our Beth El members volunteer at the school during the school year, many on a weekly basis. By building relationships with students, staff, and teachers, these volunteers contribute their time and energy, showing just how much Beth El cares about improving our public education system both today and for the next generation of Charlotteans.
