Becoming a Bar Mitzvah is a giant stepping stone in my life. It means that I am finally an adult in our faith. In preparing for my Bar Mitzvah, I learned that when you are trying to get something important ready, you have to practice at it. Now that I am a Jewish adult, I plan to continue to go to the holiday services and to help my sister out for when she becomes Bat Mitzvah. I plan to keep learning about Judaism by practicing it and going to Sheva. I take pride in being Jewish because we are a strong community with a long history.
My Mitzvah project was to play piano in retirement centers. I chose this because I have played piano for many years and enjoy seeing the smiles on the audiences’ faces. In completing my project, I got two things out of this. First, I improved my piano playing because I practiced for many hours in advance of each performance. It was important for me to play well in order to entertain everyone. Second, I felt pride in playing so well. But more importantly, I liked that the older men and women watching the performance enjoyed the music. I plan to keep on playing piano for many years as a hobby and I hope more people will enjoy my performances. In doing my Mitzvah Project I performed the mitzvah of helping and respecting my elders.
