My favorite thing about being Jewish is the holidays. I love being able to celebrate holidays that many of my friends don’t celebrate and being able to teach my friends about Judaism. During Sheva I learned about the different things Judaism teaches, and spent time thinking about what it means to me to be Jewish. To me, becoming a Bat Mitzvah means that I can carry on the Jewish tradition and teachings. Since I am now a Jewish adult, I plan to keep learning about Judaism and living with Judaism by going to services on Friday nights, leading or helping to lead more services, and maybe becoming a madricha or going to Hebrew high.

Maddie lives in Waxhaw with her parents, Ryan and Melanie Courtemanche, and two younger sisters, Aneliese and Talia. Maddie’s maternal grandparents are Hunnie and Bob Klein of North Granby, Connecticut. Maddie’s paternal grandparents are Norma and Byron Young of White River Junction, Vermont, and the late Michael Courtemanche, also of White River Junction, Vermont.
