My favorite thing about being Jewish is celebrating new holidays and getting to be part of a culture that’s unique. To me, becoming a bat mitzvah is special – you actually get to go through something; all of your family comes and joins you for the day, and you get to learn to speak a language that not many people know. In this process, I have learned that I can remember more than I thought I could, and that repetition really works! For my mitzvah project, I am helping out at a food bank in Mooresville. The first time I went, we worked at the front desk, and the second time, we worked in the back, stocking food. I appreciated getting to see and meet and interact with the people who utilize the food bank – I learned that the food bank is not actually just for poor people, it’s for people who can’t get to the grocery store and buy lots of food at once. Moving forward, I will tell all my friends about becoming a bat mitzvah and teach them about Judaism, and I will continue to come to Sheva.
