My favorite part about being Jewish is the community because the people are so nice and we all have something in common so I never feel out of place. We can always depend on our community to help make the world a better place. Our community also helps us fight racism, sexism and homophobia because we as Jews have faced descrimination ourselves. Our past makes us nicer to each other and to other groups of people. Becoming a bat mitzvah means being responsible for my own choices and actions as a Jewish woman. Preparing for my bat mitzvah taught me to work hard and persevere to achieve my goals.

JStage Charlotte has been an important part of my life since I was seven years old. For my Mitzvah Project, I spent over 20 hours helping out during rehearsals for the Fall Musical, Madagascar. I worked with young cast members to keep them busy when they weren’t on stage and helped them learn their music and choreography. This project was meaningful to me because I got to help out in a place I love to be. I will keep learning about Judaism by participating in services, Hebrew High and BBYO and by being a Madricha to help younger kids in religious school.

Nora is a seventh grader at Northwest School of the Arts. She is the daughter of Martha and Brian Yesowitch and the sister of Asher. Her grandparents are Glenn and Pam Link of Augusta, GA and Bill and Judy Yesowitch of Delray Beach, FL.
