Geography & Wine TriBE by Peter Benjamin

Who would have thought that taking virtual trips around the world and learning about a particular region’s wines was of interest to anyone but serious vinophiles? Certainly not I. However, since the 3+ years since its inception, our Geography & Wine TriBE gatherings have been an incredibly enjoyable and educational experience for even non-wine drinkers like me! The best part of our TriBE has been the many new friendships that continue to grow and solidify within this subset of our Temple Beth El family, most particularly during the pandemic. Whether on Zoom or at a live get-together at someone’s home, our TriBE has truly become a group of close friends who treasure one another’s company. We have learned, laughed, and cried together…and that is the true value of the sustainability and stability that the Geography & Wine TriBE continues to offer.  We meet once per month. Each couple or individual chooses the wine and region for that month and hosts our gatherings. The host then conducts an enlightening and usually entertaining presentation followed by comments and questions from the group. Dinner with the wine of choice for that month (and selected other adult beverages) and stimulating, fun discussions and socializing are primary factors contributing to our TriBE’s success. We really have a great time catching up. The evening normally concludes with the host asking, “The Big Question.”  I really look forward to participating in these thought-provoking discussions. We have tackled many important issues and how those relate to our Judaism and to our daily lives. It is so impressive how respectful and supportive we all are during our discussions. Our monthly TriBE gatherings have a sacred placement on our respective calendars. We really look forward to the third Saturday night of each month; and we cannot wait to return to in-person get-togethers on a more regular basis! We would like your help with our TriBE Spotlight that is part of the monthly TriBE email. Could you or someone in your TriBE write a brief overview of your TriBE or write about current happenings, an anecdote, a particular moving or interesting meeting/topic, etc.? You can send it to Kelly Markiewitz or Beth Lewis.  Your help is greatly appreciated!
