Becoming a Bar Mitzvah is an important step in my life and shows that I will be more mature and will handle new responsibilities. While preparing for my Bar Mitzvah I enjoyed talking and getting to know Cantor Bernard and the tutors. They have really helped me prepare for this day. I would like to continue my time in BBYO, Hebrew High and being a madrich. Being a madrich has enabled me to teach kids who are younger than I about Judaism and set a good example of how to enjoy being a Jewish adult. Part of being a Jewish adult is the responsibility of educating other people about my religion and learning about other people’s religions.

For our Mitzvah Project, my parents, sisters, and I are cooking dinners at the Ronald McDonald house and volunteering at The Freedom School. We chose these two projects because we heard about them numerous times and have always wanted to know what they are all about. At the Freedom School I got to help underprivileged kids. I learned that they are pretty much just like me. It really made me more aware of the world around me. At the Ronald McDonald house I was able to meet some very nice families who have children in the Levine Children’s Hospital. I was able to help the families without even trying because I was just having fun cooking and serving in the kitchen or playing with the kids on the playground. The parents and the siblings were going through a very stressful time with kids in the hospital and all they needed was someone to lighten up their day. In doing these projects I fulfilled the mitzvot of helping those in need and providing education for others.
