Becoming a Bar Mitzvah means that I will be recognized as an adult in the Jewish Community. One of the ways in which I will take on Jewish adulthood is participating in Jewish youth groups here in Charlotte. In preparing for my Bar Mitzvah and attending Sheva, I have learned more about what the Torah is trying to teach us and become more familiar with services. By continuing to attend service and practice Judaism in our home, and hoping to help my sisters prepare for their B’not Mitzvah, I hope to continue learning and teaching Judaism. Being Jewish means that, in a good way, I am different than everyone else – I like having different experiences and knowing different things.

For my Mitzvah Project I made meals for a military family whose daughter attends my Middle School. I chose this project because I felt like I could help this family when their mother was deployed for six months. I was sympathetic to this because my Dad travels a lot for business and I couldn’t imagine him being gone for half a year. With this Mitzvah Project I worked on the mitzvah of loving my neighbor as myself.

Zachary is the son of Jeff and Amy Strasser, and the sibling of Shayna and Lindsay (ages 11 and 7). He is the grandson of: Penny Krieger, of Charlotte; Stanley Krieger, of Miami Florida; and Beverly and Andy Strasser, of Boca Raton, Florida.
