As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, Temple Beth El invites you to join us in honoring Dr. King’s vision of justice, compassion, and community through a series of meaningful events. These opportunities reflect our mission to cultivate connected, proud, meaningful Jewish living that inspires change in our world and to show up for each other and our broader community.
Saturday, January 18 at 9:00am
Join Rabbi Nichols and Rabbi Erdheim at the corner of Tryon and 11th Streets for a brief, justice-centered Torah Study and Shabbat service. Together, we’ll reflect on the teachings of our tradition that call us to work for justice and equality. After the service, we will proudly march as a congregation in Charlotte’s annual MLK Parade.
Please note:
- There will be no Torah Study or Shabbat worship at our building this day.
- This event will be outdoors, so please dress for the weather.

For over 30 years, Hope Chapel has offered weekly worship for those who are often left behind, including the unhoused, the formerly incarcerated, and those suffering from addiction. In addition to feeding the hungry four times a day, it also serves as a clothing bank for those in need.
In partnership with Hope Chapel and Sardis Baptist Church, we will assist in creating an outdoor meeting space for the community to gather.
What to Know:
- If the weather does not cooperate for outdoor work, indoor projects will be available instead.
We hope you’ll join us in this sacred work as we honor Dr. King’s vision and deepen our commitment to creating a brighter future together.
