Becoming a Bat Mitzvah means the world to me. I’m the first person in my family to become a Bat Mitzvah, since my Grandpa Herb, who became a Bar Mitzvah in 1954. What I like most about being Jewish is being part of a community and celebrating holidays. My favorite part of the holidays is definitely the food (especially potato latkes!)
Now that I am a Jewish Adult, I plan to finish Hebrew school and attend Hebrew High, become a madricha at the Hebrew school and possibly tutor B’nei Mitzvah students. Last year, I attended Six Points Sports Academy Summer Camp and my first NFTY Event. I hope that I can attend camp and NFTY again in upcoming years.
For my mitzvah project, I volunteered at Bright Blessings wrappings books and helping out at a birthday party for homeless children. I also volunteered at Jewish Family Services in the food pantry and delivered bags with treats for Rosh Hashanah to seniors. I chose this project to directly be a part of my community. I enjoyed helping those in need as well as meeting and connecting with people.
