Dear Temple Beth El Community,
We are thrilled to announce that from May 24 through July 24, Temple Beth El will welcome Student Rabbi Jacob Friedman as our summer rabbinic intern. Jacob is a rising third-year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College, originally from Southern California and a graduate of Indiana University. Our primary goal is to contribute to his growth as a rabbi and support his learning alongside our professional and lay leadership. This is a wonderful opportunity for Temple Beth El to help teach and train a future rabbi who will go on to serve the Jewish community in the years ahead.
Prior to rabbinical school, Jacob worked as a youth director at a large synagogue in Northern California. He has also spent the past several summers at URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, Mississippi, and is excited to return to the South for this summer’s internship at Temple Beth El.
Jacob brings a love of Jewish music, a passion for theology, and a particular interest in Jewish thought and mysticism. He is eager to get to know the Temple Beth El community and is looking forward to learning with us throughout the summer.
During his internship at Temple Beth El, Jacob will shadow our clergy, lead in worship and teaching, and engage with many different parts of congregational life.
As we prepare to welcome Jacob, we are also looking for help with transportation. If anyone in the congregation has a car Jacob could borrow during his time here, or one we could use for the summer with appropriate compensation, we would be grateful to hear from you. If you may be able to help with transportation, or would like to be in touch about welcoming Jacob to Temple Beth El, please contact Renata Rosenberg, Clergy Assistant.
We encourage our community to welcome, meet, and interact with Jacob when he arrives. We are looking forward to an enriching summer with Jacob and are grateful for the many ways this community helps us welcome and support future Jewish leaders.
