Support Roof Above

Roof Above is the result of the recent merge of Urban Ministry Center and the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. They are always in need of donations and volunteers. Read on to learn how you can help!

Project Snowflake

Temple Beth El congregants have been supporting Roof Above for many years through Project Snowflake by serving breakfast on Christmas Day. This year, as we are not allowed to volunteer at the shelter, we are asking families to make breakfast/brunch casseroles (help us achieve our goal of 50!) and to drop them off at Merle Gottheim’s house on December 23 between 12:00pm and 3:00pm, and they will be delivered to the shelter on Christmas Eve.

There is also a great need for the following items, which can be dropped off to Merle’s house on 12/23, as well:

  • New warm blankets
  • Packaged socks
  • Packaged underwear
  • Travel size hygiene products (shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, soaps)

Email Merle to coordinate drop-off

Room in the Inn

Roof Above would love the assistance of our Room in the Inn sites to help provide lunches, cookies and in-kind donations for our 130 winter overflow nightly guests. These opportunities are not only great for groups but also great for families or individuals as well!

Hotel Food Distribution

Volunteers are needed to distribute food at Roof Above sites for unsheltered people at high risk for Covid-19. Pick a Sunday from 4-6pm.
